PAN AMERICAN AIRWAYS OFFICIALLY RETURNS TO SCHEDULED PASSENGER SERVICE

Maiden flight from Portsmouth, NH to Orlando/Sanford Departs at 8:30 AM

Portsmouth, NH: At 8:30AM today, Pan American Airways returned to scheduled passenger service with the on-time departure of Flight #1 from Portsmouth, NH to Orlando/Sanford, FL. The scheduled passenger flight was the first for Pan Am since February of 1998.
Pan Am President Dave Fink said, "The departure of this flight is a proud moment for Pan Am. There is a strong tradition and legacy at Pan American Airways. When Juan Trippe founded this airline in the 1920's, the airline industry was just emerging. From these early beginnings and throughout this century, Pam Am has been a witness to history as it pioneered service to Europe, the South Pacific and Latin America. By serving princes and kings, diplomats and presidents, business travelers and families, Pan Am helped to revolutionized the world's economy and society by bringing the world closer together by air travel. Throughout its history, Pan Am established itself as a leader and the familiar blue and white logo is recognized throughout the world as a symbol of American excellence." Fink added, "We take our stewardship of this legacy very seriously, and we are committed to ensuring that today's Pan Am is operated wisely and proudly, in the great tradition of America's premier airline."

Fink stressed, "We believe that Pan Am is now on its way to returning a sense of civility to airline travel. Our scheduled passenger service will provide 'Clipper Class' service to passengers aboard our fleet of reconfigured 727-200 aircraft. The Clipper Class cabins have been designed to provide additional legroom and overall space for passenger comfort and convenience."

Beginning in mid-November, Pan Am will begin scheduled service to Chicago through the Gary/Chicago Airport.

In discussing Pan Am's future scheduled passenger plans, Fink said, "Our business strategy is to slowly add destinations based on market demand and the ability to locate at under-utilized airport facilities. Overall, we believe that there is a growing market for both business and leisure travelers who want to avoid cramped cabins, long lines, delays and expensive parking."

Pan Am currently operates from its maintenance and world headquarters located at the Pease International Tradeport in Portsmouth, NH. The airline presently operates charter and scheduled passenger service. In addition, Pan Am operates a state-of-the-art maintenance hangar, a fuel facility, a reservations center, and passenger terminal at its Portsmouth, NH location.

The maiden voyage from Portsmouth to Orlando/Sanford will include a delegation of officials from State and Portsmouth City Government. Airport and County officials in Sanford will greet the flight and meet with the NH delegation to discuss economic opportunities associated with Pan Am's new service. The return flight, which departs Sanford at 1:20 PM is the first scheduled passenger service departure from the Sanford International Airport. The Sanford facility has in recent years been successful in attracting international charter flights, and last year had more than 1.2 million-international charter passengers pass through the facility.

About Pan Am:

The original Pan Am, founded in the late 1920's by Juan Trippe, set the standard for modern air travel worldwide as the operator of the famous Pan Am Clippers and, later, as the first to fly the Boeing 747. Along the way, Pan Am's blue globe became one of the most recognized logos in the world.

The new Pan Am was acquired by the owners of New Hampshire-based Guilford Transportation Industries under a Plan of Reorganization approved by a Miami, Florida Bankruptcy Court judge in June of 1998. The new owners relocated the company's headquarters from Ft. Lauderdale to Portsmouth in December of 1998. At Portsmouth, the company operates a 220,000 square foot maintenance facility, as well as other aviation related businesses.
